7 Tips to Care for Your Used Truck

After a long time together, trucks become a part of the family. To keep this family member with you for a long time, you need to take care of it. Here are some tips to help.

Oil

Change the engine oil regularly. If your truck has a lot of miles on it, then change the filter every time you change the oil too. Check the owner’s manual to see the details.

Tires

Whenever you get your oil changed, rotate the tires too. This will ensure even wear and extended life for all tires. It’ll also make your ride smoother. Remember to balance the tires while getting them rotated. Unbalanced tires cause vibrations and increased suspension wear.

Alignment

If you notice your truck pulling to one side under braking, it’s time to get the wheels aligned. Misaligned wheels cause increased wear on the tires, drops fuel economy, and hurts your ride and suspension. Driving aggressively or quickly over rough roads can cause misalignment.

Lights

Schedule regular checks for the interior and exterior of your truck. You’ll notice a lot about its health when you do. If you see that an interior light is dim, it may be due to an electrical problem. A burned-out external light is dangerous and can lead to a heavy fine. Remember to always keep spare fuses in the glove compartment.

Fluids

Your truck needs fluids to run well. Check engine oil regularly, and if it smells dirty or like gas, it’s time to get it changed. Also, check the coolant levels because trucks generate a lot of heat. Ensure that the windshield washer fluid is also topped up. Keep an extra jug in your car, especially during winter when salt and sand are spread on the road.

Air

Check your truck’s air filter to see if it has become clogged and clean it. Replace it every 15,000 – 30,000 miles or more often if you drive on dirt roads. It’ll help your engine last longer and improve its efficiency and acceleration.

Conditions

Understand how you use your truck and the specific wear and tear that use causes. Identify the parts that undergo excessive wear due to your use and address those issues.
